Alright, so what did I think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Well… save your money…

That is, to go see it. It was a wonderful, twisted flick (what else can
one expect from a Tim Burton movie) and it is my opinion that Johnny
Depp acquitted himself very nicely as Willy Wonka. It’s not fair to
compare his performance to Gene Wilder’s because they are two different
Wonkas. Depp’s Wonka is a fractured child-adult and Wilder’s Wonka was
a maniac, crazy and tender-hearted individual.

I liked that the new remake hews closer to the book than the first one
did. It was more in the original spirit of Roald Dahl. (Everyone needs
to read all of his books.)

I give it a very hearty thumbs-up. Highly recommended.
