This weekend reminded me of John Donne’s oft quoted words, “No man is
an island.” No one is meant to go through and experience life alone. In
fact, I’ll wager that the most enriching and enlightening experiences
we can have in this life (and the next) is when we are a part of the
wonderful support system that God gave us.

Friday: I got to (finally!) introduce Chip to Amanda. She got to see a
little part of the world that I used to be a part of for a long time.
It was a bit different for her to have me be the translator this time
and to see me sign so much. But it went well.

Saturday: Knowing we would be busy all day Sunday, I decided to get
Amanda a gift for our six month anniversary (which was “official” on
Sunday) and give it to her after she got home from work. She really
liked the dozen roses and the card I got her. The roses look fantastic
in a black and white vase in the front room of her dorm room. It’s been
a wonderful six months with the greatest girl a guy could ever be
blessed with. I love you.

Sunday: I spent the night at her mom’s place (on a couch that was
smaller than I was; despite that, I slept ok) and we all went to her
beautiful home church in Western Springs. I got introduced to more of
the good friends of Amanda’s family. After that, it was the open house
party for Tim,
Amanda’s brother who is here on a two-week leave from Iraq. It was very
nice to see family, friends and other people, including the mayor of
Crest Hill, show up to support Tim and give him encouragement. It
didn’t matter if Tim knew them well or not, they just came to give him
support. I hope he goes back to Iraq, refreshed and refueled and eager
to finish his tour of duty, knowing that all of these people are
praying, thinking, rooting for him. That knowledge can make a huge
difference in how we live our life.

It was a busy weekend.
