It’s been a crazy week. Yesterday, I was so tired by supper time that I
fell asleep in Amanda’s lap at 7 p.m. all the while battling a serious
runny nose. I thought to myself, “Curse you wrenched Mono, you’ve
finally got me!” After stumbling through P&W and being half-awake
for a couple of games of our usual Uno games, I went home and passed
out.

This morning. I’m wonderful. The nagging semi-sore throat I had
yesterday is gone and my nose has resumed its normal breathing,
non-running function. I’m still tired, but I blame my lack of a regular
sleeping schedule.

Must have been just a cold after all that my body fought successfully. Yay for a fantastic immune system.

Getting my headlights fixed. It’ll be nice to drive with high beams again.

Here’s the conclusion to my saga.

Part III:

Armed with a valid drivers license, I once again began driving with
confidence. My first court date was in Will County in Joliet and Amanda
generously agreed to come with me, so we hopped in my car and drove to
downtown Joliet.

The judge seemed to be a nice old lady. My name was called out so
Amanda and I approached the bench. I clutched my papers, ready to
defend myself. Asked if I had a valid license. Yes. Okay. It was
decided that I would be fined $150 total for both violations (speeding
and suspended license) and placed under court supervision for a year. I
was admonished not to speed.

Could have been worse. Trudged to the elevators and went down two
floors to pay my fine. Felt regretful to fork over that cash, but at
least one court date down.

My birthday rolled around and I turned 25. Little over a week later, I
had my second court date in Bridgeview for Cook County. Amanda didn’t
come with this time.

The judge was an older gentleman. Didn’t seem to be having a bad day.
Good sign. I had my papers clutched in my hands again, but it turned
out I didn’t need them. I was let off with no fine and told to apply
for a new license to ensure I was valid once again.

I walked out that courthouse into the beautiful day and felt relieved.
This whole messy affair was now behind me and I could move on. More
importantly, I could once again speed without fear of being arrested.

I kid.

Sorta.
