Amanda and I went to see Chronicles of Narnia last night at the AMC theater downtown on Illinois and Columbus, right by Navy Pier. The movie was fantastic and faithful to the book. So faithful that my girlfriend would tense up if a scene looked like it was about to deviate from the book but then relax and nod and smile upon seeing it play out like she had imagined. It was great seeing someone who really knew the source material (I had only read the book once) enjoy the movie.
Seeing the lion Aslan in all of his glory really drove home what I had a hard time picturing in the book, the metaphor of Aslan to Christ. It was thrilling to see such wonderful symbolism stay completely intact in a current Hollywood production, including dialogue that makes it explicit what is going on. It could have been vagued up, but it wasn’t. I was pleasantly surprised.
If you haven’t seen the movie already, it is very much recommended for the whole family.

Yeah its weird. It almost feels like your playing tag with yourself. Only yourself is in the future (or past depending on how you look at it.)
I also like the movie. I saw it Wednesday. Its a lot better than the movie I saw Tuesday. I saw Syriana on Tuesday and I’m still trying to figure out what exactly that movie is supposed to be about. It was kind of good, but I have no idea how the storty line fit together.
