Thoughts on Psalms
I just started studying the book of Psalms in my goal to read the Bible from back to back. One thing that’s striking me is, “Why the heck haven’t I read this book yet!?” I guess the answer could be because it looks like a boring book full of poems and hymns. I guess it always felt like it would be like reading the hymn book. But I read 15 Psalms tonight and there’s wonderful, awesome stuff in there. I strongly encourage everyone to read this particular book of the Bible, perhaps with some helpful commentary to explain some of the obscure stuff. I’m also finding it extremely exciting to read or sing these psalms out loud. It really makes the prose come alive.
Right now, there’s a psalm that’s REALLY speaking to me because it’s hitting me where I am at this point in my life. Permit me to share it with you. Perhaps it’ll touch someone else for the same (or different) reason(s).
a psalm of David How long, O Lord? Will you forget me
forever?
How long will you hide your face from
me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and every day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over
me?
Look on me and answer, O Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in
death;
my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
for he has been good to me.
I plan on posting more as I continue in my studies. Perhaps my readers would like to share their favorites? May we all discover something delightful this week.

The one thing I love about the Psalms is that the Psalm may start out in a depressing note, complaining about how your enemies have hurt you, or how God has left you (see above), but always ends in Praise.

I didn’t ever really think about it too much but when I speak a psalm a few times , life is easier to deal with. I wonder how the results of speaking psalms memorizing them would affect life.

Hmm, you have a point. I kind of forgot about that one since I’ve never done it. Infact, I only know of a handful of people who have done it. But I said that it seemed to me like it doesn’t happen much anymore, but I tend to be oblivious to a lot of stuff too.

That would work, but how many movies are actually true to books?
