It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is right around the corner! One of my favorite things to do around this time of the year is to put up a Christmas tree with colored lights and then turn off all of the lights in the house except for the ones on the tree. Then I get comfortable on a couch and just sit and look at it. There’s something quiet and soothing about just sitting in front of a decorated, lit Christmas tree with absolutely nothing going on in the background. No TV, no music, no internet, nothing competing for my attention.
It’s rather nice to have a time for quiet meditation in this noisy world, something that this season desperately needs sometimes. If you’re feeling stressed out (who isn’t? I’m still not done shopping!), find a time to literally turn off and unplug everything that’s going on around you (and inside your head too) and sit and enjoy the beauty of the tree.
Even just for a few minutes enjoying this silent night, I found my stress melting away and my spirit getting recharged. If you need that, do it. Don’t let time and the world take away the true joy of this season because before you know it, it’ll be gone until next year. Savor and cherish it while you can.
From all of us at Calvary, have a wonderful Christmas! May you be richly gifted with time with family and friends this holiday weekend.
