We don’t think of our daily life as a battle, but it is. The Bible clearly teaches that there is a spiritual warfare for all of the souls of humanity. You can’t get much clearer than Ephesians 6:10-13: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
We’re in the middle of a cosmic clash between God and the forces of evil, led by Satan, who want to take down all of God’s creation. In this ugly battle, lives and souls are lost, some for eternity. While we know the ultimate outcome of this war, it is our Christian duty to press on and fight to gain souls for Christ so they don’t end up in that terrible place that we call Hell. As I’ve written these past few weeks, in reading about Heaven in Randy Alcorn’s book, the idea of Hell has become frighteningly substantial to me. I cannot imagine anyone spending an eternity in the complete darkness, totally devoid of all and any single good thing. It is a fate much worse than death.
Two weeks ago, on October 4, eleven adults who had not known Christ were baptized. Through their new faith in Christ, they were forever sealed and saved from Hell. This beautifully illustrates and shows perfectly why we fight, why we press on in faith, why we reach out to others in the name of Christ.
