Sin and Tortoises

One of the hidden secrets that adults don’t tell their children (or any children for that matter) is how difficult life actually is. It’s an unspoken truth, not uttered to children, perhaps in an effort to preserve their bright-eyed naivete about life. Perhaps we think that if we told the truth to children, it would be like Instant Coffee. Instant adults — just add hard-hitting life truth. We tell children that Jesus loves us and saved us from sin.  → Read more...

Why I Write

Hello. I’m back. No, I haven’t been involved in a tragic car accident with a cow and carted away to the hospital. I’m not dead either. I’m very much alive, you see. It’s been an odd few days since I last posted on my little blog. For one, I turned 26. It was an unremarkable day to commemorate my arrival on this little planet 26 years ago. No parades or fireworks or anything of that sort.  → Read more...

Thoughts on Psalms

I just started studying the book of Psalms in my goal to read the Bible from back to back. One thing that’s striking me is, “Why the heck haven’t I read this book yet!?” I guess the answer could be because it looks like a boring book full of poems and hymns. I guess it always felt like it would be like reading the hymn book. But I read 15 Psalms tonight and there’s wonderful, awesome stuff in there.  → Read more...

There have been a couple of things that have made my inner geek moppet very happy these past couple of days. First, I discovered a site that has awesome tutorials for Photoshop. This has kickstarted my creativity up again like none other. I made a sweet wallpaper, if I may say so myself, of my fiancee that mimicks the look of a Sin City comic. Already there are some projects and exercises that are rolling around in my head.  → Read more...

Winds of Change

As I sit here, the clock slowly ticking away the twilight hours, a cool breeze wafts in, reminding me that it’s unnaturally cold outside for this time of the year. My bed sits next to me, pillows and blankets beckoning me to join them for a good nights’ slumber. “Not yet,” I say. My gaze turns outside where the world lays its head, mostly asleep. The stars above are unseen, hidden by the clouds. Flora and fauna quietly snore contentedly, having drank for most of the day.  → Read more...

I did something tonight that I hadn’t done in a long time: I drove around aimlessly. I went to my mother’s house to pick up some mail that had arrived for me and then I decided to stop at Tastee-Freez for some ice cream. This was around 8 o’clock in the evening, so the sun was setting behind some huge clouds that were turning violet. It was such a quintessential summer evening that I decided I didn’t want to go home.  → Read more...

It’s been a while since I’ve last posted on here.     (what an understatement) This summer has been one full of struggles, thoughts, ideas, aspirations, hopes, and failures.     (valleys and peaks) But, one thing that has been exciting me lately is my newly discovered zeal for reading the Bible. It’s partially because of a fantastic new Bible that I was lent. It has historical notes, context, biographies, and more littered through each book that helps keep the reader on track or clarifies things for the reader.  → Read more...

Since a lot of Trinity folks (I almost typed out Trinitarians… a new word to describe a student/alumni of Trinity?) read my Xanga when I get around to updating, I received some bad news this morning. Alberteena VanderWeele (everybody will know her as the woman for the Cooper Career Center that went around to every class talking about how to do a resume) passed away this morning around 6 a.m. due to cancer. One of the nicest, gentlest women I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, she had been struggling with this for years.  → Read more...
