As the earth travels in its orbit around the sun going approximately 18.5 miles per second, spinning on its axis at a rate of about 1,040 miles per hour, we don’t feel a thing. We go about our lives, eating, driving, sleeping, completely unaware of the astronomical speed that we’re hurling through space at. It’s a remarkably smooth ride, isn’t it? Yet here, on the surface of the planet, the ride’s considerably less smooth. We’re constantly colliding into others, sending each other ricocheting into different directions.  → Read more...

Honestly! There’s a small survey going on around Xanga right now that has a list of things that you’re supposed to bold or highlight the things that you’ve done. Here, let me post a small snippet for an example for those who’ve not seen it yet: Kissed someone. Smoked cigarettes. Got so drunk you passed out. Rode every ride at an amusement park. Collected something really stupid. Gone long periods of time without sleep. Lied to someone.  → Read more...

Oh, alright. I’ll do it too just because everyone else’s doing it. Leave your name and:1. I’ll respond with something random about you.2. I’ll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.3. I’ll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.4. I’ll say something that only makes sense to you and me.5. I’ll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.6. I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of.7. I’ll ask you something that I’ve always wondered about you.8.  → Read more...

Yes, I stayed up to finish watching the game. All I can say to those who haven’t been watching the Series, the past three games have been phenomenal baseball to watch. It’s been all about the pitching, which is old school baseball, the way it ought to be. It was even more apparent with all those pitching changes yesterday. It helps that my beloved Sox have been winning the past three games. If they pull a sweep off today, I will forever remember the moment and I’ll be telling my kids and grandkids about the games.  → Read more...

No work again today. No matter. I’m still looking up jobs on the internet. I’m not planning on being a landscaper for the rest of my life. No, really. I want to be a writer, didn’t you know? While Amanda was off at work last night, I headed up to Bourbon Street to meet up with my friends. The beer is ridiculously inexpensive over there. $1.25 domestic bottles on Thursday evenings. We were sitting at a table, drinking the aforementioned beer when a gentleman all decked out in White Sox garb comes to our table.  → Read more...

This week has been really tiring me out. I’m glad that we had rain today, preventing me from going into work this morning and giving me needed extra sleep. That’s the nice thing about landscaping: When it rains, you get a day off. Sometimes you just need a breather. The rest of this week will be busy as well. The job search continues. Lately, I have been thinking about writing again, partly because of encouragement from other people, including Amanda.  → Read more...

I had a great weekend despite getting muddy and breaking showers. Just another day, really. This weekend reminded me why I love October. The leaves are finally starting to hit their peak fall colors. We have glorious golds and radiant reds with oranges and hints of green in there. The leaves smell great and crunch well underfoot. Pumpkins are also being spotted, Halloween decorations are put up. All of this activity is being done under bright blue skies and cool, crisp weather, the perfect weather that carries the aromatic smell of burning leaves afar.  → Read more...

Today was my first day as a landscaper in my temporary job (while I continue my job search). I haven’t landscaped in three years. I’m sore everywhere. Exercise sucks.  → Read more...
